TRPTK SACD release ‘Into Eternity’ by Marion von Tilzer

The well-known label TRPTK released the SACD “Into Eternity” by Marion von Tilzer; “music between heaven and earth”.

The Austrian-born Marion von Tilzer has been active since the 1990s and has a broad background as a composer that transcends genres. In her work, you’ll find influences from jazz, world music and classical. She has also composed for dance performances, films and television documentaries. Her projects have been called amazing, fascinating and accessible. In 2012, she won first prize at the Donemus composition competition for the orchestral work “Die Verlassene Stadt”.

Vilma Grunwald

In July 2021 Von Tilzer presented on the adventurous TRPTK label together with Maya Fridman the SACD “Ten Songs of Change,” inspired by poems by Lulu Wang based on the “I Ching”. Now she surprises with the new chamber music production ‘Into Eternity,’ which takes as its inspiration a farewell letter written by Jewish Vilma Grunwald before she was put on transport to Auschwitz. “(….) You my only one and dearest, don’t blame yourselves, this was our destiny. We did all we could. Remain only healthy and remember my words that time will heal everything, if not completely – then at least, in part. (….) Have a beautiful life, Into Eternity, Yours Vilma”. Deeply poignant words that hit hard and are sung by the low alto voice of Bella Adamova. The musical design is that of a triptych: the instrumental introduction “Out of the Dark,” “The Letter of Vilma Grunwald” and an arrangement of the well-known Czech lullaby “Hajej m?j andílku.

The world is an illusion

To her daughter she dedicates “Song for Mira,” with lived clarinet playing by Michael Hesselink. The composition was originally part of the suite ‘The Blue Planet,’ which had as its theme ‘the seven days of creation’. The piece ‘The Day the Light Came,’ also on this release, once formed the start of this cycle. Almost indescribably beautiful is ‘I Heard This in My Dream,’ created after reading Sydney Banks: spiritual music that expresses how you will be enlightened when you die. The world is nothing more than an illusion, a world of thoughts.

Dreamy

‘Girl Finds a Bright Spot in a Dark World’ is based on a story from the richly illustrated book ‘The Red Tree’ by Shaun Tan’. Here again we find that typical dreamy atmosphere. In this composition, the listener experiences how a nightmare gradually turns into positive images and feelings. The concluding ‘Into Eternity’ allows the music to slowly fade away in a certain timelessness. The words of the title are the last words of the letter Vilma Grunwald wrote to her husband.
