Violectric Chronos, portable DAC for on the go

Listening on the go, with some headphones, is more popular than ever. And since headphones anno nowadays sound very, very well… a portable DAC like this Violoectric Chronos fits right in.

The Violectric Chronos portable DAC (and headphone amplifier) is nowadays indispensable for anyone who wants to listen via wired headphones linked to a smartphone. Smartphones – and certainly the high-end models – nowadays hardly have built-in connection possibilities for a decent pair of headphones.

And this is where the Chronos comes in! You connect it via the USB-C, micro-USB or Lightning connector on your device; whatever you like. It’s modest in size, which means the Chronos is easy to take with you. Violectric supports all formats: PCM up to 32 bit / 384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256. In short: there must be something wrong if you can’t hear something.

‘Difficult’ headphones

The built-in headphone amplifier of the Violectric Chronos delivers a maximum power of 2 x 30 mW at 32 Ohms, or for example 5 mW at 600 Ohms. This should enable the little gem to drive the ‘more difficult’ headphones, according to the manufacturer. Nice to know: you do not need to install drivers if you connect to your Windows laptop for example; the device is automatically recognized as a DAC. The Chronos is available from the end of this month for a price of €199.
