Sonos has found itself in a difficult situation after the disastrous launch of its new, “improved” app.

Even with the “renewed new” Sonos app, users remain far from satisfied. The company is facing a massive amount of criticism, much of it justified. Recently, Sonos has not had much positive press regarding its troubles lately. Including the revelation of a previously undisclosed eavesdropping vulnerability.

‘Bringing back the old app is an option’

According to a report from The Verge, the problems have escalated to the point where upcoming product launches are now being delayed. As the article mentions, all options are currently on the table at Sonos, including the possibility of bringing back the old app, simply because it actually worked. The downside is that the old app is technically less suited—or not at all suitable—for the support of future speakers. Precisely that was the primary reason Sonos decided to develop a new app from the ground up.

This idea might have had good grounds. But: this new version should never have been released to the public in such an incomplete alpha-test state. The decision has done little to bolster Sonos’s reputation, especially since their initial response was inadequate. This situation is far from resolved, so stay tuned for further developments!
