It was bound to happen. Now that vinyl is popular again in certain circles, more and more turntables are hitting the market — including portable models. There is the iconic Sound Burger by Audio-Technica is undoubtedly the most famous, if only because of its design and the nostalgic vibe it evokes. The Sound Burger’s popularity must have gotten Toshiba thinking. The tangible result of that thought process is the new Toshiba Aurex AX-RP10 portable turntable, designed along similar lines.
On a full battery charge, the player offers 10 hours of playtime. You can listen through headphones or a Bluetooth speaker — wired or wireless, it’s your choice. A “foolproof” tonearm lift mechanism and an auto-stop function, according to Toshiba, make the player very user-friendly. A sturdy cast-iron platter, combined with the underlying electronics, ensures a signal-to-noise ratio of 60 dB and just 0.2 percent wow and flutter.
At the time of writing, the price of the Toshiba Aurex AX-RP10 is still unknown, but it is expected to be released sometime this month.
