Most people probably never really think about it, but devices like hearing aids have also made enormous technological leaps in recent years.
A great article on Headphonesty.com explores the idea of listening to music through a hearing aid. Many people still picture grandpa or grandma with a conspicuous pink device tucked into their ear. But that’s technology from decades ago. Modern hearing aids are packed with advanced tech, including – unsurprisingly – DSP. An audiologist carefully adjusts the frequency response to match exactly what the individual ear needs in order to hear “normally” again.
The article points out that there are now models with Bluetooth, enabling hands-free calls and high-quality music playback. And all of that through perfectly fitted in-ear devices, custom-made for each user.
It’s certainly not an inexpensive “hobby” – you’ll easily spend several thousand euros. Still, it’s fascinating to see that “better sound” is becoming accessible, at least for some people with hearing loss. Naturally, much depends on the specific type of hearing impairment. It’s a very different branch of the audio world – but an interesting one nonetheless!
