Noble Audio Sceptre: Mobile High-Quality Bluetooth

Not every smartphone, tablet or computer supports the “higher-quality” Bluetooth codecs. The Noble Audio Sceptre offers a way around that limitation.

If you use Apple smartphones and/or tablets, you are effectively tied to that manufacturer’s ecosystem. On the Bluetooth side, that means you are limited to AAC (alongside SBC) as the primary codec. While AAC can operate at relatively high bitrates, it remains a lossy format. If you want to move toward aptX or LDAC, that is not possible by default. A similar issue exists with many Android devices—one model supports certain codecs, another supports different ones.

To take matters into your own hands, USB-C-to-Bluetooth adapters are available. One of the latest examples is the brand new Noble Audio Sceptre. Its concept is simple: plug it into your smartphone or tablet, pair your headphones or speaker, and start listening. The dongle supports LDAC and aptX, as well as AAC and the standard SBC codec.

The Sceptre features a streamlined design, meaning it is intended to sit neatly and snugly against the device it is plugged into. However, this may cause issues with certain protective cases. Likewise, when used with a laptop, the dongle could potentially block adjacent USB-C ports, rendering them unusable. It is therefore wise to check compatibility before purchasing.

A pleasant bonus of the Noble Audio Sceptre is its generous wireless range—up to 20 meters, according to the manufacturer. The compact device is priced at €69.99.
