The new Burson Soloist Stellar is a pure Class A headphone amplifier delivering an impressive maximum output of up to 8 watts.
Australian manufacturer Burson Audio has introduced this brand-new, dedicated headphone amplifier. With a maximum output of 8 watts in Class A, it offers far more power than most headphones require in everyday use. However, in the high-end segment there are certainly more demanding headphones that can benefit from this extra headroom.
According to the manufacturer, the Soloist Stellar is designed not only for (wired) headphones, but also for equally wired IEMs (in-ear monitors). For this purpose, it features a dedicated IEM amplifier module, built around two TPA6120A2 amplifier ICs. These are known for their extremely low distortion (around 0.00014% THD+N), combined with a very high slew rate (1300 V/µs) and wide bandwidth.
It’s worth noting that the Soloist Stellar does not include a DAC—it is purely a headphone amplifier. This makes it an ideal partner if you already use a separate DAC. If you are looking for a more all-in-one solution, Burson’s Conductor series may be a better fit, as it combines a DAC, preamp and headphone amplifier.
The Burson Soloist Stellar is available immediately, with prices ranging from €1,310 to €2,271, depending on the chosen configuration and optional upgrades.
