The App
Contents
For the app Audiolab chose DTS Play-Fi, an app that is regularly used by various brands. Think of McIntosh, Anthem and Arcam. But is it a good one?
Installation on our Huawei i6 smartphone is painless. The Audiolab 6000N will be found quickly and we can get started immediately. If we can get him up and running as soon as we can, I’m sure you can, too. The app is available for iOS, Android, Windows and Kindle. Play-Fi supports a lot of streaming services including Tidal and Qobuz. Spotify via Spotify Connect goes too. The unit is also UPNP compatible. Although UPnP is not really the ideal way to stream
An app needs to work intuitively and look groomed, which is the case with the DTS Play-Fi. It is easy to install and stable. The layout of the app is fresh and modern and we quickly mastered everything. The handy arrow helps you navigate through the app and during our review period we received a meaningful update of the layout
The manual provided is very clear and straightforward. For each application is step by step what you need to do. So far so good.
Gapless
However, there is one big problem with DTS Play-Fi and that is that the system does not support gapless playback. We find that incomprehensible in the year 2019. It doesn’t have to be a problem in itself, it didn’t bother us very much, but for some people it will. A number of recordings, think of live recordings or mix albums, lose their charm when there’s too much time between individual songs. A bit of a pity because the streamer itself doesn’t disappoint. The unit is UPNP compatible so other solutions may be possible. Think of playing via another client (BubbleUPnP or the media server of your NAS). But we haven’t tested that and we can’t confirm it.
