Who is the Creek 4040A for?
Contents
The Creek 4040A belongs on the shortlist of any music lover looking for a fine amplifier and not wanting to spend thousands of euros. Nowhere does it falter, you can listen to music for long periods of time with great pleasure and relaxation, especially since the Creek seems to have so many reserves, creating a stable, room-filling stereo image.
The number of connections is more than enough for the audio enthusiast. An HDMI Arc is the only thing missing to use the Creek as a media hub in the living room.
The audio enthusiast on a tight budget will also certainly appreciate the Creek, especially since you can grow on while keeping the amplifier. The apparent ease of controlling speakers leaves room for the possibility of upgrading speakers.
The same goes for a digital source. The internal DAC is appropriate for the price level, but if a better DAC is connected, the playback is also better. Then we are soon talking about a DAC, or streamer with DAC, or DAC with preamp, that is more expensive to buy than the Creek itself to be significantly better. That leaves room for a nice upgrade path should you want more.
The USB connection is surprisingly good for this price range, allowing you to play high-quality music both with a simple solution via phone, iPad or computer, and that connecting a streamer via USB is no problem.
