Operating the Creek 4040A
Contents
Pressing the left button once brings the amp out of standby mode. An input is selected by turning the left knob. Pressing it once displays the amplifier’s menu.
The right button is for volume. Pressing the right button activates the mute function, pressing it again takes the amplifier out of mute.
The operation of both buttons has its flaws. It takes two clicks of the left button to change the input selection and with some delay. Selecting another input does not work smoothly and takes some getting used to. Turning the volume from position 0 to 1 is a relatively large step, then there seems to be hardly any difference for quite a while. From position 25 on, the steps are audibly larger. Fine-tuning takes some effort.
The remote control is simple. It works on infrared and you have to aim right in front of the amp. I have the audio rack at 90 degrees to the listening position and that doesn’t work with this remote.
For right-handed users, the remote is a bit tricky to get used to. The volume control is on the left and next to it is the input selection button on the right. They look the same, so you consistently click the input selection instead of the volume.
