Synology announces 4-bay DS923+

Synology introduces the new 4-slot Synology DiskStation DS923+, designed for home office and small business.
‘Running on the versatile operating system Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), the new DS923+ delivers complete solutions to protect and manage business data, easily collaborate on documents, access files remotely and monitor physical property – all in a compact enclosure. The device delivers consistent performance once deployed, but can also be expanded with network cards to achieve network upgrades and faster data transfers,” the manufacturer announced. “The DS923+ delivers impressive performance and capabilities for its size,” says Michael Wang, Product Manager at Synology. “In addition, storage and network capacity can be easily expanded as needed.”

Efficient storage that grows with you

The DS923+ can serve as a primary storage and data protection solution for homes and small offices, as well as an edge node for systems spread across multiple locations. It offers over 50 TB of storage in a compact 4-slot enclosure, but can also easily scale up to 9 drives with a DX517 expansion unit for a total storage capacity of over 120 TB. Users can achieve even better performance by upgrading to 10GbE connectivity and inserting M.2 NVMe SSD drives into the built-in PCIe slot to enable fast caching or create additional all-flash storage pools, according to Synology.

Optimal use of on-site storage capacity

‘Teams collaborating remotely and businesses with multiple locations benefit from file synchronization between locations to mirror content between Synology devices. Synology Drive makes file management and sharing intuitive by combining convenient remote file access with the benefits of local storage: privacy and 100% data ownership. With the DS923+, users can enjoy high-quality local storage while reducing their on-premises data usage with hybrid cloud technology. ‘Synology Hybrid Share efficiently stores cold data in the cloud, but also ensures that frequently used files remain cached locally on the device and accessible at LAN speeds,’ said the manufacturer.

Multilayer backup

‘To prevent irreparable loss of valuable information, it is essential that critical and sensitive data is continuously protected from today’s cyber threats. With Synology’s Active Backup Suite, users can securely back up their IT infrastructure, including Windows and Linux systems, Hyper-V/VMware VMs and Microsoft 365/Google Workspace accounts, to the DS923+ and easily restore as needed. For enhanced redundancy, backups and point-in-time snapshots of the data on the NAS can also be created and sent to a remote server or cloud service,” the announcement further states.

Compact surveillance server

The device can also be deployed as a full-fledged video management system, giving users full ownership of their local data. ‘Synology Surveillance Station is a powerful video management system that already protects more than 500,000 locations. With flexible ONVIF support and over 8,300 compatible IP cameras, the system is easy to install and suitable for any location. Surveillance Station has a modern, customizable interface that makes it easy to set up and manage up to 40 cameras. For larger buildings or building complexes, there is the ability to add floor maps and integrate Google Maps or OpenStreetMap maps for optimal situational awareness. Important footage can be preserved for greater resilience, with support for recording server backups, management of multiple devices and even end-to-end encrypted simultaneous recording to the Synology C2 cloud,’ the manufacturer announced.
