

The new Volumio Rivo Plus is a music streamer aimed at a slightly higher market segment, while remaining affordable.
Volumio is a well-known player in the streaming market, initially recognized by the general public for its software of the same name. This software allows users to set up their own streamer with minimal expense, using something like a Raspberry Pi. However, Volumio also provides hardware, all designed for a controlled hardware environment and the best possible sound reproduction. This focus is evident in the new Volumio Rivo Plus music streamer. According to the manufacturer, its internal design is aimed at keeping CPU load as low as possible, which should improve sound quality. Additionally, jitter is better controlled than ever, thanks to MEMs clocks.
Storage
The Volumio Rivo Plus supports high-res audio files up to a resolution of 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD up to DSD256. Naturally, popular music streaming services like Tidal Connect, Qobuz, and Spotify Connect are supported, along with Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth 5.0. The device is DLNA and UPnP compatible and is operated via the Volumio app, available for both iOS and Android. In terms of digital outputs, options include AES/EBU and coaxial, as well as three USB ports that can connect to a DAC, hard drive, or CD-ROM drive. Finally, the practical microSD card slot allows users to easily expand the standard internal storage of 16 GB.

So this I why it should not be talked about?
In case you haven’t noticed: this is the news section. In most cases, they are based upon press releases by manufacturers. It is neither a review, nor a first look.
You forgotten to mention it now also has I2s. That was my main bout with the Rivo. No I2s. Since it is now there that could justify the higher price for me. Though I ‘d still need to get a new power supply for it. I wonder how it would compare sound quality wise to the lesser known Keces Ebravo + p6 power supply deal. 1000 but no I2s.

As someone who has made and designed a boat load of digital stuff I still can’t understand why anyone would think I2S is a good idea. When Philips designed this there was so much tech talk that this still required ultra low distance between the two points. The idea of doing this over a cable is just crazy.
In my experience isolation is a key in connecting any source and destination. While I2S in this manner is differential, it’s still ground referenced to both the source and destination.
The bigger problem is this… You are taking 2 products made by 2 different companies on an interface that has no specification and expecting it to work.
Plus how much jitter is created in the interface when the length of wire is just a bit off and how well is it received and applied to internal clocks?

Well apparently it works. The pin outs are documented and many dacs can be set for different pin outs.
