To add streaming capabilities to a Marshall speaker, you can now make use of the new Heddon streaming hub.
Marshall’s active Bluetooth speakers do not have built-in streaming functionality. In many cases that isn’t really an issue, as they are typically used in combination with a smartphone. However, if you want to use them in a fixed home setup as well—or exclusively—an autonomous streaming hub can be a very practical addition. That’s where the new Marshall Heddon comes in.
The Heddon is specifically designed for seamless, wireless integration with the Acton III, Stanmore III and Woburn III speakers. Wireless communication with these speakers is handled via Auracast. Network connectivity is also wireless, using Wi-Fi, although an Ethernet connection is available if you prefer a wired setup. In addition to Auracast, the Heddon supports AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect and Tidal.
If you own other (older) Marshall speakers, those can be used as well via the analogue RCA output, which adds to the hub’s versatility. Also worth noting is the RCA line input, allowing you to connect sources such as a CD player or turntable (in the latter case, a phono preamp is required).
In terms of design, the familiar Marshall “stage-retro” look is clearly present. The Marshall Heddon streaming hub is priced at €199.
