Spotify is introducing a new “Verified by Spotify” label to provide greater transparency. One of the key questions it aims to answer: is the music AI-generated or not?
A growing number of music lovers want absolutely nothing to do with AI-generated music. The problem, however, is that artificial music has now become so convincing that it is often nearly impossible to determine how a track was actually created. The new Verified by Spotify badge is intended to help address that issue.
This feature is not only designed to act as a kind of authenticity check for artists, but also to provide better protection for artists themselves—particularly regarding what appears on their profile pages. Other factors tied to the badge include consistent interaction with listeners over a longer period, compliance with Spotify’s platform guidelines, and signs that a real human artist is behind a track or album.
The feature is currently being rolled out—partly still in beta—across the streaming platform. Good news for anyone who instinctively reaches for the “Next” button the moment an AI-generated track starts playing.
That’s a good start.
