It’s “The End” for Google Play Movies, in the next few weeks the app will quit before offering an alternative.
Fans of Google Play Movies are out of luck: Google is discontinuing this movie platform. What will replace it is not yet known. Rumors suggest that the most logical successor will simply be YouTube. You will then be able to purchase movies and so on. YouTube will thus become much more commercial. And – we fear – Google will undoubtedly push more toward paid YouTube subscriptions. Whether that is good or bad news for all the enthusiastic Youtubers who frequently share their creations with the world? Time will tell.
The advantage of going the YouTube way, of course, is that it creates a kind of all-in-one media platform for the search giant. You can watch through a browser, or through the YouTube app, just what you want. Whether it will all actually turn out exactly that way remains to be seen. But that it’s over and out for Google Play Movies is a fact.
