The soulution 787 is a new linear-tracking reference turntable, designed for those who want to get the absolute best from their vinyl.
According to the Swiss manufacturer, the soulution 787 turntable has been specially developed for the most demanding audiophiles. The player combines a unique form of linear tracking with a moving platter and a minimal pivoted tonearm. As noted in the announcement, this results in a tracking error of less than < 0.15°. The 8-inch tonearm is mounted on an isolated, resonance-controlled subchassis. The platter moves laterally to ensure the pivoted tonearm remains perfectly aligned along a linear tracking path. This architecture is said to eliminate the friction and imbalances typically found in conventional linear-tracking systems, where lateral forces pull the tonearm inward toward the center grooves.
“The soulution 787 offers all the benefits of an ultra-low-friction pivoted tonearm, without the skating forces, tracking errors, or alignment challenges found in traditional systems,” the manufacturer explains.
Moving Platter Design
The entire platter assembly — consisting of the platter, sub-platter, a high-precision low-friction sintered magnetic bearing, and a motor with precious metal brushes — moves laterally beneath the tonearm along polished axles. According to soulution, this ensures “a minimal tracking error from the outermost to the innermost groove of the record. The tonearm combines the advantages of both linear and pivoted designs, delivering the best of both worlds. There are no lateral tracking forces, skating effects, or tracking inaccuracies.”
Sensors
Ultra-precise inductive proximity sensors continuously monitor the tonearm position and control the platter’s lateral motion. soulution states: “This ensures that the tracking error always remains below +/- 0.15°.” The tonearm features premium precious-metal alloy wiring and is adjustable for both VTA and azimuth. When the platter moves into the parking position, the tonearm swivels out of the way, allowing for easy record changes.
