The brand name Melco will disappear and be replaced by Dela, a move directly tied to a restructuring of parent company Buffalo Inc.

The rebranding from Melco to Dela makes sense, as it aims to clarify what stands for the name — namely, the Japanese company Dela. Interestingly, in the region where the manufacturer is based, “Dela” means “extreme,” so there’s nothing wrong with that connotation. Especially considering the brand has been known for years as a high-end name in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Naturally, the manufacturer promises that aside from the name change, nothing else will change. Neither the design nor the internal components of the products are affected. The brand will continue to focus on high-quality network solutions. After Melco was recently integrated into Buffalo, Dela became the flagship brand for high-end audio within the group, and that change is now being implemented across the entire company.

Minor changes

As mentioned, there will be no technical changes, and prices will also remain the same. The only exceptions are that the network switch “Switch” will no longer be produced. Also, the D100 disc transport will only be available in black. Meanwhile, two new network switches under the Dela brand are planned for release later this year.

Whether the brand name will catch on in the Netherlands remains to be seen. After all, there’s already a similar named major insurance company: a household name in the funeral market…
