As we’ve written before: fortunately, more and more new CD players are hitting the market again — such as this Shanling CD80 MKII.
Compared to its predecessor, the Shanling CD80 MKII features a new DAC circuit built around a Cirrus Logic chip. The CD loading mechanism has also been updated, and the device now supports continuous playback of both CDs and tracks stored on a USB stick. Headphone enthusiasts will appreciate the built-in headphone amplifier. It offers a choice between a 3.5 mm mini-jack and a balanced 4.4 mm output. The former delivers up to 215 mW and the latter up to 850 mW. Both into a 32-ohm load.
In terms of connections, you get analog RCA outputs and a coaxial digital output. You can also choose between a fixed line-out level or a variable output level. The latter is adjustable via the volume knob on the CD player itself. For those who prefer wireless playback, Bluetooth is available as well — allowing you to stream music from devices such as your smartphone. Supported codecs include SBC, AAC, and LDAC.
