According to the rumor mill, the Nagra Compact Player will be unveiled next week. Beyond that, little is (so far) known — but its arrival does seem certain.
Every now and then you come across an announcement that leaves you wondering what to make of it. This is one of those cases, as virtually nothing is known about the newcomer. We spotted the announcement of the forthcoming Nagra Compact Player on the Facebook page of René Laflamme, who is Nagra’s Sales and Marketing Manager for the Americas. According to his brief and rather succinct post (see the screenshot above), it concerns a streamer that plays “every format,” ranging from MP3 all the way up to DSD256 and DXD. The enclosure is made from a solid block of aluminum (milled, we assume). Inside, the “legendary Nagra clock” is at work, accompanied by a low-noise power supply.
Apart from this limited information and a single photo, nothing else is currently known about the device. Our advice for now is simply to keep an eye on the manufacturer’s website.
