If you feel like going seriously over the top and have some money to spare, the Dan D’Agostino Momentum Z anniversary power amplifier might be just the thing.
The Dan D’Agostino Momentum Z is a power amplifier—specifically a monoblock—released to celebrate the manufacturer’s 15th anniversary. Visually, it features an instantly recognisable design, though it’s certainly one you’ll either love or hate. Maximum output power is rated at 500 watts into 8 ohms, 1,000 watts into 4 ohms, and an impressive 2,000 watts into a 2-ohm load. According to the manufacturer, all of this power is delivered in a highly controlled and low-distortion manner, even at high volume levels.
To achieve this, a newly developed “Kinetic Drive Regulator” is employed. This technology is said to combine the precise controllability of MOSFETs with the high current capability of bipolar transistors. The input stage is built around JFETs, chosen for their high input impedance and very low noise characteristics. Substantial copper heatsinks are used to ensure efficient heat dissipation.
A notable feature is the built-in Ethernet connection, which allows users to monitor all key parameters via a local web interface. These include temperature, bias, DC offset and trigger status. Even the configuration of the front panel can be adjusted.
The Momentum Z will be available from March this year, with a price tag of €75,000 per unit—or €150,000 for a stereo pair.
