Yes, the CD player is making a comeback as well. The new full-size NAD Electronics C 589 is a case in point.
The NAD C 589 is described as a piece of precision engineering that extracts the maximum possible performance from CD playback. At the core of this cd-player is the QRONO d2a module, developed by MQA Labs. This component is designed to improve digital timing and reconstruction accuracy. The D/A conversion approach—also handled here—is said to deliver enhanced spatial detail, more accurate transitions and improved “musical flow.” According to NAD, the transport mechanism is engineered for smooth, quiet and reliable operation.
In terms of connectivity, there is a wide selection of both digital and analog outputs, including balanced XLR and traditional RCA. AES/EBU, as well as optical and coaxial outputs, are also available. The generously sized display provides information about the disc and track being played, with support for CD Text (if present on the disc).
The NAD C 589 carries a price tag of $1,399.
