FiiO has announced its new K17 R2R Pro, a DAC, streamer and headphone amplifier housed in one compact unit.
The FiiO K17 R2R Pro is not yet available; its official presentation is scheduled for June. As the name suggests, the D/A conversion in this DAC/streamer/headphone amp is based on an R2R architecture—more specifically, the same 5 + 24-bit resistor network used in the K13 R2R. According to the manufacturer, this resistor-based DAC design delivers a more “analog” sound character. Users can also choose whether or not to use oversampling.
The built-in headphone amplifier is a Class A/B design with a maximum output power of up to 2 x 4000 mW. Streaming is fully supported, with connectivity via Wi-Fi (both 2.4 and 5 GHz) or Ethernet. Power is supplied by a linear low-noise circuit.
The FiiO K17 R2R Pro will make its world debut at the upcoming High End Vienna, where pricing will also be announced.
