The legendary Technics SL-1200 first saw the light of day 55 years ago—in 1972. And that calls for a celebration next year, in the form of a special edition!
The celebratory edition of the SL-1200, also known as the SL-1200M7G, is actually arriving just a little ahead of the exact 55th anniversary. However, that certainly shouldn’t spoil the fun for true enthusiasts. This special limited-edition version will be available from September 2026, with a choice of gold—undoubtedly the most eye-catching version—blue, red, black, green, white or grey.
The special 55th Anniversary Edition is based on the ‘regular’ SL-1200 MK7 DJ turntable. It features a digitally controlled direct-drive system, while the familiar vertically positioned pitch slider offers an adjustment range of 16 percent. In addition, the tonearm is height-adjustable, and Technics has even included a reverse playback mode.
Only 12,000 units will be available worldwide. That is enough to give enthusiasts a reasonable chance of getting hold of one, but perhaps not enough to leave the decision until the very last minute.
The anniversary edition is priced at $1,599.
