British brand Majority has introduced a versatile new all-in-one: the Quadriga Maxi. In addition, the company is launching another three devices.
Majority proves that you certainly do not always have to pay top prices for a hi-fi component. Its new Quadriga Maxi (pictured above), for example, is an all-in-one system that is ready to use straight out of the box. You do not even need to buy speakers, as those are built in. They come in a 2.1 configuration, comprising two 7.6cm full-range drivers accompanied by a 13cm driver for the lower frequencies.
Furthermore, there is a slot-loading CD player which, according to the manufacturer, handles regular CDs as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs. And for those who still have them lying around, even CDs containing MP3 files pose no problem whatsoever.
We are not done yet, because there is also a streamer built in. This supports familiar music streaming services including Spotify Connect, Amazon Music and Deezer, while internet radio is available as well. And if all that is still not enough, under the hood of the Maxi you will also find DAB+ and FM tuners. An 11cm colour display is provided to operate the system, while on the wireless side Bluetooth rounds off the package.
Perhaps the nicest feature of all, however, is the price: the Quadriga Maxi costs just €399.
Fitzwilliam
At the same time, Majority is launching its Fitzwilliam series, which is equally affordable and offers something for different requirements. The range consists of the Fitzwilliam Amp, CD and CD Amp. In other words, you can opt for separate components by combining the Amp and CD, or choose the CD Amp, which combines a CD player and amplifier.
The CD player also functions as a streamer, including internet radio, while both FM and DAB+ tuners are provided. The Amp, meanwhile, is a 100-watt-per-channel integrated amplifier with a Class D output stage based around a TI chip. Once again, streaming functionality is included, together with DAB+ and FM tuners.
That leaves the CD Amp, effectively another all-in-one, although in this case you will have to provide your own pair of external speakers.
Prices for the components in the Fitzwilliam series are as follows:
- CD: €199
- Amp: €229
- CD Amp: €269
