The new LG Electronics StanbyME 2 Max is the latest version of the company’s television on wheels. Practical innovation—or a step too far?
If you’re the type of person who likes to watch television—or, more likely these days, streaming services—anywhere in the house, including the kitchen or other rooms, the LG StanbyME 2 Max may be just what you’re looking for.
The new model features a 32-inch 4K display with a 60 Hz refresh rate, mounted on a wheeled stand that allows it to be moved effortlessly from room to room. It would be even more impressive if it could automatically follow you around the house, but that feature will have to wait for a future generation.
One of the StanbyME 2 Max’s biggest advantages is its built-in rechargeable battery, providing up to 4.5 hours of viewing on a full charge. That also makes it suitable for temporary outdoor use, such as on a patio or balcony—although it should be kept well away from rain, as the television is not waterproof.
The TV supports Dolby Atmos, while LG’s Alpha 8 AI Processor upmixes audio to a virtual 11.1.2-channel surround sound experience.
The LG StanbyME 2 Max is already available for pre-order in the United States at a retail price of $1,299.99. European pricing, including availability in the Netherlands, has not yet been announced. For now, only the previous 27-inch StanbyME model is officially available there, although that is likely to change in the near future.
