VPRO On Stage episode six: Naaz

In the sixth and unfortunately last episode of Dutch VPRO On Stage, the lead role is reserved for singer Naaz.

The chief guest of the last episode of this series of VPRO On Stage is Naaz. At fifteen, the singer of Kurdish descent took part in Holland’s Got Talent and in the years that followed she gained fame with songs like Words and Up To Something. This year she is more in the spotlight than ever, with a concert under her own name in Carré, an appearance at the Down the Rabbit Hole festival and a (self-arranged!) spot in the support act of Lana Del Rey. In conversation with Nadia, Naaz discusses her Eastern roots, with contributions from singer Meral Polat, theater producer Ferhat Kaplan and the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra. Also performing are singer Thomas Azier, rock band De Staat and young singer-songwriter Morpheus

‘Nice to hear what I like’

‘I really got to know myself better through the broadcast,’ Naaz said. ‘I really have two sides: a cozy side and a melancholic side. And on this episode of On Stage, that melancholic, serious side came out especially. I enjoyed it. Laughs: ‘I just really enjoy hearing what I like’

On Stage, episode six: Naaz, Friday, October 20, 8:55 p.m., VPRO, NPO 3
