If you want to bring out your old cassettes again, the FiiO CP13 portable player has been available for a while. The new update is a transparent version.
For a modest portion of music enthusiasts, cassettes have suddenly become popular again. Although most who grew up with them are glad that this type of media essentially “disappeared” many years ago, replaced by digital players and recording equipment. They don’t look back fondly on tape tangles, wow and flutter, noise, and so forth. But there are hipsters and other curious individuals who are now eager to listen to cassettes again. As a result, new portable cassette players are appearing here and there, albeit slowly. One such player is the previously released FiiO CP13, which bears a striking resemblance to the classic Sony Walkman of yesteryear. Equipped with a USB-C port to charge the internal battery, it offers 13 hours of playback on a full charge.
Stable Tape Speed
Internally, a fully analog circuit is used, though unfortunately without Dolby noise reduction. So it’s a hardcore throwback to the old days. The motor control regulates the speed as accurately as possible to minimize wow and flutter. The new feature is that this FiiO CP13 is also available in a transparent version now. This allows you to watch the mechanism in action while listening to a cassette, which is always fun!
The price of the FiiO CP13 is €99.
