Philips Moving Sound: The Yellow Era Returns!

Back in the 1980s, Philips launched its Moving Sound series of devices. Now they’re making a comeback—every bit as bright yellow as they once were!

During the eighties it suddenly became popular to release a “sports line” of portable audio devices. These were brightly yellow, often somewhat splash-resistant, and perfectly in tune with the bold color trends of that era. It was also the age of miniaturization: for the first time you could easily take along a relatively compact FM stereo radio on your jogging sessions. Philips joined in with the Moving Sound line of portables—strikingly yellow and impossible to ignore. This year Philips celebrates its 100th anniversary and deemed the line iconic enough to bring it back.

Four models

The new Philips Moving Sound Series consists of four devices. While the classic look has been preserved, everything inside has been updated with modern technology. First up are two Bluetooth speakers: the MS80 “The Tube” and the MS50 “The Roller.” The Roller is the smaller of the two, equipped with two tweeters, two bass drivers, two passive radiators, and a maximum output of 60 watts. Bluetooth 5.5, Auracast, and USB playback support complete the package. The Tube is the larger model, delivering up to 140 watts in total. Both speakers come with built-in light shows, controllable via the Philips Entertainment app.

Then there are the MS5 “The Buds” in-ears and the MS1 “The Bingo” over-ear headphones. A little patience is required, though: none of the models will hit the market until the second quarter of 2026. Keep an eye on the manufacturer’s website—they’re bound to get a big launch there!
