Apple has released two new versions of its devices: an updated iPad Air and the iPhone 17e “budget” smartphone.

If you want a (recent) iPhone without paying top-tier prices, the new iPhone 17e may be the answer. It is powered by the exact same A19 SoC as its bigger sibling, the standard iPhone 17. In terms of performance, there is no difference between the two models, and users gain full access to Apple’s extensive app ecosystem — including numerous audio-related applications and remote-control apps from various brands.

The 17e features a 6.1-inch OLED display, with support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, as well as Dolby Atmos and Apple’s own spatial audio technology.

Where Apple has cut back compared to the “full” iPhone model is in the camera department. The 17e is equipped with a single 48-megapixel camera. While the resolution is solid, it lacks the ultra-wide and 5x zoom cameras found on the higher-end version. For users who are not particularly focused on advanced photography, this is unlikely to be a dealbreaker.

Pre-orders are now open, with prices starting at €719. The final price increases if you opt for additional storage.

iPad Air with M4

The popular iPad Air has also received an update. This tablet is positioned price-wise between the entry-level iPad and the iPad Pro. In terms of processor, it trails the Pro by one generation. However, the M4 chip featured in the latest iPad Air is already more than powerful enough for the vast majority of applications.

You can choose between a 13-inch version starting at €869, or a more compact and affordable 11-inch model starting at €669. These are entry-level prices; storage options range from 128GB up to 1TB, which will affect the final cost.
