US-based Andover Audio has introduced its new FreePlay Portable Bluetooth LE speaker, complete with a substantial built-in battery.
Although Andover Audio may be somewhat less familiar outside the US, the American manufacturer offers a wide range of potentially interesting hi-fi products, including portable speakers such as the new FreePlay. You can order directly from the company’s website, although using a retailer such as Amazon may be the more practical option when shipping costs and other considerations are taken into account. The brand is regularly available there as well.
Either way, the FreePlay is a capable Bluetooth LE speaker with a built-in rechargeable battery. When fully charged, it provides an impressive up to 24 hours of playback, although volume levels will undoubtedly have a considerable impact on actual battery life.
Furthermore, the speaker carries an IP67 dust- and water-resistance rating, making it perfectly suitable for outdoor use. Multiple FreePlay speakers can also be linked together.
Interestingly, the Andover Audio FreePlay is a genuine stereo speaker, something that certainly isn’t always the case with similar portable products. To achieve this, Andover Audio has fitted it with two woofers, two 25 mm tweeters, and a 160 mm passive bass radiator at the rear.
There is no need to install an app to configure the speaker either. Simply pair it with your device and you’re ready to go.
The relatively substantial FreePlay also comes with an equally sturdy carrying handle. It is available in three ‘earthy’ finishes: Ivory, Olive, and Slate Grey, priced at $429.
