The American brand Grado has introduced a new premium headphone within its Signature line: the Signature S550.
As is almost customary with Grado, the new Signature S550 is an open-back headphone. According to the manufacturer, it has been designed for listeners who appreciate warmth, openness and clarity, while still delivering speed, detail and immediacy.
To achieve this, the headphone uses two 50 mm S2 dynamic drivers—one in each ear cup. These drivers have been specifically tuned to match the headphone’s fully wooden housing. Each of the wooden ear cups is individually manufactured and features natural variations in the wood grain, ensuring that no two units look exactly alike.
According to Grado, the walnut wood used for the housing, combined with its natural density, contributes to a fuller and more balanced sound presentation.
The Signature S550 is supplied with a cable featuring a 4-pin balanced mini-XLR connection and a 3.5 mm plug, along with a 6.3 mm adapter. The headphone will be available later this month at a price of $995.
