The triplets of Arcam look beautiful on our new furniture. In our opinion, a tight set-up intensifies the experience while listening. There is little or no distraction. That way we can enjoy the music to the fullest. We go one step further and dim the display on each device to be even less distracted.
Rest, music, enjoy. Zen, zen, zen.
We first compare the analog part of both amplifiers. Speakers of service are our Audio Vectors and a set of Monitor Audio Silver 300 floorstanders. The latter feel more and more at home in our listening room. The combination between the SA20 and the Monitor Audio floorstanders goes very well. The picture’s just right. By analogy, the SA20 is clearly the better of the SA10. The timing is a lot better and the sound a little more refined. Furthermore, the signature of both amplifiers is friendly with sufficient foundation and detail.
The digital hatch of both amplifiers is a lot closer together in sound. The implementation of the Sabre chips is fine with both and the display is very similar to the analog hatch. Plenty of body in the low, a little more forward than analog, and quite a lot of detail in the high. Voices never sound sharp digitally either and we find that very positive. With the right speaker, they both sound excellent digitally.
