On the editorial staff, it’s a duel. One half has an iPhone, the other half an Android. Apple has always paid a little more attention to audio quality than other manufacturers. In many cases this was also clearly audible. But when Apple removed the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone 7, a lot of audio enthusiasts were angry. Somewhere, too. We also ran into this problem. Because a dongle doesn’t make us happy. With the Samsung Galaxy note 9 we don’t have this problem. We want to test Note 9 as extensively as possible and will therefore use the smartphone as a daily phone for the coming weeks. But the emphasis is on the use and functionality in and around audio.

Long term

Our day starts around 06:30. Then the daily ritual begins, breakfast, children, getting ready for work. There won’t be many people who don’t recognize this. From that moment on, the Galaxy Note 9 will also be used. Unlocking the phone can be done via facial recognition or the fast fingerprint scanner on the back. In the meantime, check the news at breakfast, send an app and check the traffic jams before departure. In the car we connect the Galaxy Note 9 to the radio and stream music from Tidal. The large screen is wonderfully clear and easy to operate.

The hustle and bustle of the day begins. We’ll call, appen and mail some. Meanwhile, we do some research online and watch some videos on YouTube. We take some pictures for social media or a review. By the end of the day we use the phone of portable music player. Earplugs in and walking with the dog. In the evening on the couch or in bed some Netflix.

What outlines our surprise, the Galaxy Note 9 still has battery left! Our IPhone had already been on the power once on a day like this. That’s a big plus. Charging the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is wireless by the way. No more hassle with cords.

Smooth

The use all day long is nice. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 reacts quickly and works smoothly takan. This is of course thanks to the rappe processor (8 cores, 2.8 GHz max!) and the 6GB DDR4-RAM. The large screen also makes it pleasant to work with and gives the feeling of overview. The large screen is also great for watching media. The image is razor sharp and full of contrast. A little research teaches us that this is one of the best screens on the market. Maybe even the best screen.

Hidden Benefits

A unique selling point of the Galaxy Note 9 is the pen. “A pen with a smartphone?” Yes, indeed! We love it. It makes the operation precise and gives more control.

We’re addicted to music services. Tidal in particular is our big favorite. Exploring new music happens on a tablet or smartphone. A tablet has the advantage of a large screen, which provides an overview. The Galaxy Note 9 combines the advantages of a smartphone and tablet. With the pen we scroll through all playlists and new albums. A little tap and a song starts playing. The pen is for seeing a button. With the button we can easily pause or skip a song. No more dirty fingers on the screen or picking the wrong button or album with our too thick fingers. We love it. We also wonder why every large smartphone doesn’t come with a similar pen. Because when we’re done with the pen, it disappears into a cavity at the bottom of the phone. Can’t get rid of him either.

Samsung is also trying to build a bridge between computer and smartphone. We think this kind of innovation is worth mentioning. The system is called DEX. This comes in the form of a docking station. A monitor, mouse and keyboard can be connected to the docking station. Plug the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 into the DEX docking station and the phone can be used as a desktop.

We also find a lot of little things in the phone that are smart, but you don’t really think about them that quickly. A good example of this is a small menu that is activated when we remove the pen from the phone.
