Some time ago we already wrote quite extensively about the introduction of Sennheiser’s Ambeo soundbar. We listened to these at Sennheiser’s headquarters and we were impressed. Now demos are always different from listening to an audio system at home or in the studio. We got to try the Ambeo ourselves here are the results.
Soundbars in the league of Sennheiser’s Ambeo or the Yamaha YSP 5600 are highly prized specimens. The Ambeo is 126 cm wide, 13.5 cm high and 17 cm deep. It took some effort to drag the huge box into the house and gave the 18.5 kg heavy soundbar a place for our own TV, the proportions are rather lost
Our Loewe TV measures ‘only’ 40 inches diagonally, which is more than enough for your editor and his or her family members. However, the Ambeo, we notice, is designed to operate monitors of at least 65 inches. Otherwise, you run the risk of not being able to see the image through the soundbar. But seriously, this sound bar comes with a large screen
Measuring is… knowing
That’s why we decided to choose a different biotope to test the Sennheiser Ambeo. Because not only the size of our screen, but also the size of the room where the TV is in our home does not seem to be the most suitable to do justice to the Ambeo’s capabilities. We go far and beyond for you, dear reader and therefore we searched and found a new test living room; a room of approx. 40 m2, walls where a lot of reflection is possible and, not unimportantly, a flat screen TV of 65 inches
Connecting the Sennheiser Ambeo is very simple, especially if your TV is equipped with HDMI ARC. This makes the soundbar part of your system which means that one remote control is all you need to operate the whole system
Calibration is also easy. We place the supplied measuring microphone that looks like a kind of antenna on legs at the listening position that should be at least two meters from the soundbar. Measuring itself is for us a familiar process of sweeps through space. After a few minutes the calibration is complete
The Ambeo has four HDMI inputs, one optical input, analog (3.5 mm jack), USB, Ethernet/wifi. This last option allows you to stream music through services such as Chromecast, Spotify, TuneIn.
