The new Dela S5 and S50 are network switches designed — according to the manufacturer — specifically for the optimal handling and streaming of audio data.
Inside both of these new Dela (formerly known as Melco — keeping track isn’t easy!) network switches beats a precision clock circuit. They also feature extensive power isolation options and additional connectivity. Let‘s start with the S5 (pictured above). This one comes housed in a robust aluminium chassis mounted on a 3 mm steel base for added stability. The package includes Dela’s Super Clear Dynamic Power Supply, while clocking duties are handled by an ultra-low-jitter NDK oscillator. Connectivity consists of seven Neutrik Ethernet ports and four SFP+ slots. The latter support data transfer rates up to 10 Gbps, provided your home network is equipped with compatible SFP infrastructure. Its’ standard Ethernet ports operate at up to 1 Gbps, and any unused ports can be deactivated.
The S50, serving as the new entry-level model, also comes with Dela’s in-house Dynamic Power Supply and a precision clock circuit. On the rear panel, it offers six Ethernet ports and three SFP+ ports.
Neither model comes cheap — the S50 is priced at €3,749, while the flagship S5 costs €8,999. Both are aimed squarely at those looking to add the final, meticulously engineered touch to a fully optimized high-end audio system.</em></em>
