Perlisten S7t
Contents
Perlisten is a brand with a young history. In fact, it was founded in the “Corona Era”. Behind the brand are people with an audio history. Think Daniel Roemer and Lars Johansen. Names that do have some connections to other speaker brands. Think M&K, Peerless…
The Perlisten (Perceptual Listening) S7t is the Danish-American company’s flagship model. This is always interesting, because this should therefore be the best of the best they can deliver right now.
With seven drivers (three in the tweeter DPC array), this is a big and heavy speaker. And believe us: you don’t just pick it up alone: the S7t weighs almost 60 Kg.
The tweeter is a special configuration with the Perlisten S7t. There are in fact three tweeters: one beryllium dome in the center and a TPCD dome above and below. The bottom two woofers are for the bass. The two units above them for the midrange. That makes the S7t a bass-reflex four-way system.
The specifications don’t lie. These 1.3-meter towers have a high sensitivity with 92 dB. Range is no slouch either: 16 Hz – 37 kHz in an average room. Load capacity is about 600 watts if we understand it correctly. And with a minimum impedance of 3.2 ohms, the whole thing is not difficult to drive. We’ll notice that later… he plays very easily.
THX Dominus
What Perlisten prides itself on is being the first brand with a speaker that is THX Dominus certified…. the highest THX rating.
The sound
Wow! Boy… how big and authoritative this system plays! Everything sounds so rich and generous…. But not colored. In fact, the bass is dry and tight. And full of detail. Your three authors who sat down to listen unanimously agree that the Perlisten’s bass is the most pleasing in this set-up. We can follow it all easily because it remains so controlled.
Of course, this is also partly due to the Halcro that rules with a tight hand in this system. Still… it later turns out that while the other two candidates play very well, the Perlistens bass is simply the tightest.
The mids and highs are insightful and rich. The mid is slightly forward compared to the other two candidates. That must be because of the waveguide. The Perlisten seems to really drive the image forward. However, the sweet spot is remarkably large. It’s certainly not like a horn that throws everything forward.
Conclusion and specifications
All in all, this giant leaves a very good impression. It plays with authority and shows tremendous reserve: nothing feels pinched. This speaker was not developed by someone who is just starting out…. no… there is knowledge and research in this! Beautiful product! Now hope there will be enough attention and love from the retailers and importer. After all: unknown makes unloved, as we Dutch say.
