The new owner of MQA – Lenbrook – has created the Lenbrook Media Group to manage MQA, SCL6 and also BluOS.
If it is up to Lenbrook, there is still music in MQA. Whether potential customers see it that way is a matter of (patiently) waiting, we guess. Either way, the newly formed Lenbrook Media Group (following Lenbrook’s acquisition of MQA last year) is to take care of MQA, its derivative SCL6 headphone codec and BluOS. The new business is headed by equally new vice president and general manager Mike Jbara. In case that name looks familiar to you, that may be correct. In fact, he was previously the CEO of MQA and executive of Warner Music.
For fans of the compression format, we will have to wait and see whether the system still has a long life. But to be perfectly honest, the vast majority of the audio world will not lose any sleep over it if it is eventually dropped.
