PS Audio has released the brand new Mount Massive firmware upgrade for their PerfectWave DirectStream DAC MK2.

That was quite a mouthful, but of course the naming of both update and device is something over which we, at least, have no control. However, the new Mount Massive firmware upgrade for the PerfectWave does include numerous improvements. According to PS Audio, the new version 3.1.0 of the OS gives you “extraordinary” improved sound quality. In which main roles are higher resolution, less noise and various audio improvements. According to the CEO of PS Audio, the upgrade is ‘the single biggest upgrade I have ever heard in the 50 years I’ve been in the industry. Mount Massive has elevated the performance of the DirectStream DAC MK2 to levels I had only dared dream of’.

Major improvements

Among other things, the ‘Digital Lens’ has been fitted with a new buffer. This Digital Lens is the part that rebuilds incoming digital data into a new and, according to the manufacturer, jitter-free signal. The audible noise level has been reduced by 10 dB, ultrasonic noise by 30 dB. PS Audio’s engineering expert Ted Smith – we read in the announcement – devoted hundreds of hours of optimization to it. According to the manufacturer, the improvements the firmware upgrade adds to the PerfectWave are by no means trifles. We’re talking about ‘a wider and deeper soundstage, with a more open and airy quality. And the overall listening experience is one of powerful, yet refined and balanced sound’.

You can download the Mount Massive upgrade here. If you are a little less “IT gifted,” you can also order a USB stick a $29 from PS Audio at this link.
