Our reference in this price range is the Q Acoustics 3030i. And we love to get that on out on the stand. The 3030i plays tighter in the bass and just a bit more controlled. The DBR62 is a bit more playful and looser in those regions.
With the 3030i voices can be followed a bit better, in a direct comparison to the Elac, but instruments stay just a bit more hidden in the mix. Less conspicuous in any case. We hear less detail with the 3030i and the overall sound is even more pleasant than with the DBR62.
The 3030i is also critical on amplification, a trend it seems, and you have to open the volume a bit more to make them really sing. The DBR62 has some more spunk and a higher fun factor than the 3030i. Both speakers however perform well at lower volume
For whom
The Elac Debut Reference DBR62 will again appeal to a lot of people and will sell itself just like the ‘regular’ Debut. The price is good, the finish is fine and the sound is very good. Add to that an easy installation and there’s not much to wish for. This monitor is also ideal for those who want to fill a relatively large room for a limited amount of money. But do take care of a solid amplifier! Andrew Jones knows perfectly fine what he is doing and has driven the primeval version of Debut to unseen heights.
